The quilt was designed by Donna Martinez the owner of the Bittersweet Quilt Shop in Washington Crossing, PA. She was new the owner of the shop where I took my first lessons. The shop had been moved to a new location a few miles down the road.
The blocks depict different well known historical attractions in the local area. This quilt represents one of about 100 patterns that were sold at the shop. At this writing I know of eight that are completed.
I hosted a challenge to my friends who had purchased this quilt to have them completed by a certain date. If the quilt was completed they would be invited to a special luncheon at my house for their unveiling. I had four ladies with completed quilts at that luncheon. I relented and allowed one lady who had only completed one block and the designer/quilt shop owner whose quilt was not completed. We even had two ladies who felt the need to see what was going on so they knocked on the door dressed as photographers, just in time for dessert.
Since these are local attractions there are often articles in the local newspaper and other publications. I have many of these articles in a separate booklet. We have lived in this area for 46 years and since this is where we have raised our son, I felt this project would be a wonderful memory for our family.
