So Many Bugs

                                                           Viewers at the quilt show

This quilt was made for my grandson Jakob's third birthday. I felt like an "Indian giver" as I had to take it home with me so that it could be placed in The PA National Quilt Extravaganza XII September 15,2005 quilt show. It was part of the Quilts of The Delaware County display. It has also been mentioned in a newspaper article in my local newspaper.

This 76"x114" quilt is made of 100% cotton and features the following techniques- machine piecing, machine embroidery, hand applique, and crystal embellishment. It was machine quilted by Ruth Stonesifer.

This is what was written on the information page at the show.

This quilt was made for my grandson Jakob Zane Olson's third birthday. My original plan was to make a bug jar quilt for my first grandson Zachary Kane Olson. But quilters are very aware that good intentions are often delayed, fabric collections grow, as do families. So now, I have, finally made this quilt for my second grandson.

My original plan was to make bug jars divided by shelves. As I made the jars in different sizes the originality of the quilt began to come into view. Embroidered bugs spell Jake's name while embellished lightening bugs emerge and scatter from an open jar. One can find "Love Bugs" and the Damsel Fly will glow well after the lights are out.

I would not have been able to make this special quilt without the generous contributions of my friends at the "Sew What's group at the Lower Makefield Library in Yardley, PA

The techniques used include: machine piecing, hand appliqué, machine embroidery, hand embroidery, crystal embellishment and machine quilting.

Ruth Stonesifer did the outstanding machine quilting. She was able to make the quilt become lively.

The quilt measures 75 inches by 114 inches.
